The first time I watched 24, I, like so many others, was immediately caught up in the "real-time" drama. The non-stop action, the constant fear of impending doom, the super evil bad guys, the badass and Black Denis Haybert from The Unit playing the president...yes, I loved it and eagerly awaited each installment with bated … Continue reading Does anyone else hope 24: Legacy won’t suck?

How #ChewingGum has me messed up….in a good way…
Although I watched Netflix's Chewing Gum early last month, I had to think critically about how I wanted to approach this write-up. There's a lot to unpack about this show; a lot of food for thought. First of all, what is Chewing Gum? It is a play turned television series written by and starring Michaela … Continue reading How #ChewingGum has me messed up….in a good way…
Why Watching #Insecure is Necessary as F***…
I've loved Issa Rae since she dissected C-Murder's Down for My N's. When I heard that she had scored a deal with HBO to convert her Awkward Black Girl Youtube series into regular television programming, I knew I'd need to set an alarm for myself to tune in. Why watching Netflix’s Luke Cage is a must though the action kind of sucks…
It’s been two weeks since Netflix released Marvel’s Luke Cage. Rather than binge-watching over the premier weekend, I took my time ingesting the drama of the Harlem vigilante hero. Though I’m not a comic book fan in any real sense of the word, I did get to know the original character and I’m not quite sure how I … Continue reading Why watching Netflix’s Luke Cage is a must though the action kind of sucks…
In Light of All this Prime Time Blackness…
Have ya’ll noticed how there are a bunch of Black people on television these days? We’re not talking about the evening news or guests on Maury. We’re talking about actual actors and actresses of color with leading roles and lines devoid of stereotypical jive talk. We’re talking Black television stars who aren’t just making cameo appearances as gangsters and/or prostitutes only to be shot down or carted off to prison within the first five minutes of the show. We're talking real characters with actual stakes in the plot and story line.
